Well, this certainly wasn't what he had expected.
A lone dog wandered aimlessly through the streets, muttering soft German curses in his canine language every time he found himself lost. When he thought of 'downtown,' he had thought of a small, old-looking part of town with little happening. However, this wasn't the case. There were humans everywhere, whether they were shopping, ranting into small box-like what-cha-ma-call-its with rubbery buttons on them that made weird noises, eating, or just plain walking. It was quite annoying, especially when they stopped in the middle of the sidewalk to stare into a window or rummage through their pockets. It discusted the canine at how the humans were so rude. It wasn't as if Lothar hated humans--in fact, he loved them--it's just that the human species were so rude at the worst of times. The Belgian Tervuren gave off a slight yelp as one of the male humans walking past him shoved him to the side. You would have thought that the humans in the country were more kind to dogs, seeing how they wouldn't be able to get anything from the farms without their help. But, now, that wasn't the case with some humans. How pathetic.
Oh, wait, back to what I was trying to rant about again. Where was I... Oh, right! Downtown and not being what Lothar had expected. As I said, the canine had thought of a place small, simple, and less-confusing. No, this downtown was the complete opposite. It reminded him of when his old owner had taken him to the city back in Germany. He hated the city. The buildings were too tall, car exaust filled the air, cars and humans were everywhere, and it was just too loud, unlike the country. This downtown seemed to be a bit out of place, seeing how it was supposed to be in the country and not in the city. The Tervuren sighed, weaving his way through the legs of the humans until he reached a little clear area by the door of some sort of shop. Lothar inspected the small area, sniffing every corner of it, before blinking his chocolate-colored eyes and staring at the shop the area was infront of. The shop was small, much to the dog's relief, and it seemed to be filled with clothing and some other everyday-needs for humans. The Tervuren shook his pelt, some dirt forming a small cloud near his paws while the old, worn, red collar around his neck allowed the tags to jingle. Why he hadn't taken the leather collar off, who knows, but it did allow any humans who cared enough to know his name. It was better than being called 'dog' and 'puppy' by randing strangers. Lothar slowly sat down in the small area, his brown eyes gazing out at the people walking past.

jay walked out of his house and headed towards his truck. He lit up a smoke and inhaled deeply. Nothing like it in the morning that was the best time. First smoke was the best. He tilted his head looking through his tinted window that was rolled down as usual. how he wished to have a little buddy to sit and he could talk to as if it was human. Jay was the kind of guy that gave animals human treatment. He'd talk to them as if they were human and like when he got his dog he'd give it the passanger seat and no one else would get it. His eyes closed as he inhaled the toxic smoke again and let it out slowly. Well best to get out and see whats going on. He pulled the door open and rolled his eyes as he heard his father yelling in the house. What a drunk. He got in the truck and let the smoke hang from his mouth as he turned the air knob and turned his kye and the truck jumped the life. He turned the knob back and pulled the shift back and looked out the back window and reversed out. He put it into drive and hit the gas. His wrist on the wheel as his hand lazily hung over and his elbow on his open window as he inhaled his smoke and thought. He was going to get a dog today, yes he was planning on it. He wanted two, two male dogs to be his buddies. To be like brothers along side him. He had his eye on a dog at the human society named Captain, but again he wanted to change that name to Champ. He was looking for a dog that would be like his brother. Champ would he his all around dog that he'd have by him at all times. This other dog he wanted would be his wing man, protect him when he called and at least be around when Jay needed him. You know? Jay was leaniant, and kind he didn't mind if his dogs went off as long as they knew where home was and knew to come back for food and to show him they were okay. He turned the wheel as he got into town his smoke was long gone and he pulled into a parking spot at one of the empty parking lots. He sat in his truck it was a small shit box that was well better then most. He sighed and looked in his rearview mirror. He spotted a dog sitting there then looked away. His eyes shot back and he frowned as he stuck his head out the window at the dog. He smiled and wondered what this dog was about. Jay worked with animals in his job he didn't fear them. Finger placed in his mouth and he whistled to the canine. Door of the truck opened and he stepped out with spunk. Spinning as he closed the door he walked to the bed of his truck. He put the flap of the bed down and sat on it. He looked over at the dog and squinted. Fingers in his mouth he whistled loudly again and smiled. He never took his eyes off the beautiful canine. He had a color but he wasn't with anyone. ' Hey you! Hey buddy... come here!' He called to the dog as if it was a human, that how day was, he generally talked to animals and was kind to them. He watched more a smile across his face, finger grabbed a smoke as he lite it up and inhaled eyeing the dog, that was one nice perfect dog, just the dog he was looking for, had a german shepard look on him, Captain didn't but maybe this was his dog. Ment to be? Who knew? He inhaled again and waited.

A shrill noise sliced through the air, peircing its way through the pointless chattering of people passing through downtown's streets, making its way to the canine. The dog's black ears flicked up instantly, and a sudden look of interest formed on his face. His chocolate-colored eyes scanned the area, trying to find out where the whistle came from. A few seconds passed and another whistle sliced through the air. That time, the Belgian Tervuren was able to pin-point the exact location of the whistle. The second whistle was followed by a call. It was a normal call for a human trying to attract the attention of any kind of dog, using the name 'buddy' for some odd reason. Why? That he did not know or care to know.
Lothar shifted his sitting position as his eyes locked on the man getting out of some large, green (where did I come up with red before? XD), metal vehicle on wheels. The man seemed to be a young adult or something. He really didn't know the aging process of a human being. All he knew was that they lived a long time. Well, not as long as turtles, but you get the point. They get to be older than a normal canine. Lets go with that. The Tervuren allowed his tail to thump lightly on the pavement, stirring up some dust and pebbles. What should he do? Trot over to the human? Most-likely, but he didn't know if he could trust the human yet. He hasn't tried to trust any human being since he was dumped here by those weird men not too long ago. Just sit there and wait for the human to come to him? He liked that idea, but he already knew that humans didn't like to do all the work. That was what his species was for.
Lothar blinked, shifting his attention to the sidewalk infront of him. The crowd of humans had started to clear, making it easier for a medium-sized dog like him to move around. He might as well make his way over to the male human before the crowd comes back. The Tervuren gave a loud bark, leaping up as he did so, and trotted over to the man. His cream/sable tail was even wagging. It took him a few seconds to make his way over to the human, though he had to resist the urge to sneeze at the smoke coming from the smoking stick the man held. The canine sat down right infront of the man on instinct. Well, it wasn't instinct. It was actually a habit his old owner sort of forced onto him whenever he called him, but that is unimportant right now. Lothar stared up at the man, waiting patiently to see what would happen.

Jay sat there for maybe 5 minutes before teh dog had looked around though to itself had a few fights in its head then stood up and wagged it's tail trotting towards him. Jay smiled and looked down as the dog sat down. He inhaled the smoke and looked at the dog. Blowing the smoke over his left shoulder. The dog wasn't amazing looking, but it was to Jay. This was Jay's kind of dog. He chuckled to himself. ' Well hello handsome, you have a name?' He asked as if the dog would answer him in a human voice. He reached over and twisted his neck around and tried to see the tags that were kind of hidden. Jay used his finger and pushed some of the fur away. Lothar.. now thatw as a name, what loser came up with that one. Jay was picky he liked to name his dogs but if the dog came with the name the dog would be called by it. Jay eyed the dog it wasn't a 10 but it wasn't a two. Lothar, that name was gonna kill him. He wondered what this dog was about. How it worked and thought? How it would trust him. Trust him enough to get in his truck? Trust him enough to let him play with him? Who knew he looked around, no one had run out to stop him fromc oming over and no one was coming over. This dog was a loner of the streets obviously. Jay could tell partly with how the dog looked a little thin, not skinny just thin under all his fur. ' So your name is Lothar eh? Suck it. You are smart enough to come over and trust me that much hmm? Take it. And you are good looking dog for a street dog. Love it! Sold taken lets go!' He said with a smile and threw his hands up like an 8 year old girl at a surprise party, yes Jay had charcter have a problem? Well you shouldn't. Nothing wrong with some spunk in his talk. He stood up gently and put the smoke in his mouth. He eyed the dog again, he bent down where he stood and cupped his hands around the dogs face. Weather the dog bit him or not was up to the dog, but Jay wasn't mad or scared. He touched the dogs fur and thought to himself. The dog had a soft coat, rather clean too. Previously owned obviously. But Jay was the kind of guy who wouldn't go searching for the dogs owner, no he would just take the dog for himself. He looked the dog in the eyes as he cupped his face and smiled at him. He was a pretty dog that was for sure. He placed his hand gently on his head and ran it down the back of the dogs neck and smiled. ' You seem pretty nice for a street dog, do you want a home? A buddy maybe? ' Jay asked the dog again as if the dog would answer. He rubbed the dogs head lightly and gently and stood up looking around. Hands wrapped under the flap before he stopped himself from pulling it up. He thought to himself again. Lets see if this dog would trust him, can't just being a dog home that wont trust him. What good was that? He looked down at Lothar. Lets see... He crawled into the back of his dark green pick-up truck and sat at the back of the bed with his nack against the window along the cab. He looked at Lothar. Eyes never left him, how would he word this? Or would he? No need to treat him like a trained dog with hand signals lets give him the benefit of the doubt... He looked at Lothar and patted the spot beside him. 'Lothar... come' He said in a gentle voice as his hand lightly tapped the bed of the truck. he sat and waited.

Humans are so weird. They talk too much, and they sometimes seem to think that the other species is going to magically speak human. Pfft. Like that would ever happen. Sure, there are those strange boxes you can put on collars in order to see what they are thinking, but it isn't always that accurate. Lothar blinked, tilting his head slightly as the man spoke. He could only pick out a few of the words that the man was saying, but the rest was just plain gibberish. Ah, life was much easier back in Germany.
The Tervuren flinched slightly when the man started petting him and--er--inspecting him? What, were humans afraid of fleas, mites, or some other tiny being that could come up on the pelt of a random animal? Lothar was too confused on this, so he pushed the thought to the back of his mind. Oh, right, why he flinched. Well, everyone should know the reason: One)strange man petting him and Two) he hadn't had human contact in a few months.
The Belgian Tervuren watched with interest as the man went into the back of the vehicle. Come? Wait, was that a command? The canine hadn't had any of those in forever. Though, of course, his old master had said "Kommen Sie" instead, which was German for "Come." Either way, a command was a command. Lothar barked rather loudly at the man's command, lashing his cream-colored tail with excitement. Wait, wasn't he supposed to do something? Oh, right! He was supposed to go to the man. Lothar was standing up in an instance, leaping into the back of the truck. Of course, due to habit, the dog instantly sat back down, staring expectantly at the man.

His eyes watched as the canine sat there yes Jay was an odd person he was a lot different then most, probably because he liked to stand out. He watched as the dog sat there then finally his tail wagged he the truck rattled slightly as the canine jumped in and again sat down. He smiled, at the dog, that was good enough for him. He reached over and cupped the dogs face in his hands.
' Smart dog Lothar... Well I need a buddy, and if you want to be my partner in crime then lets go.'
Jay said and smiled as he patted the dog with a gentle touch. Jay was never rough, just like with horses. People usually slapped a horses neck or back. Horses like dogs had very sensitive spots. Jay never patted a horse roughly, and same with a dog, he wouldnt bounce his hand off the dog's head like a kid, instead he just gently ran his hand over his head and down the back of his neck.
He couldn't tell how old the dog was by looking at it, but he would have to take him to the vet at some point to at least make sure he didn't have any injuries or deseases. For the safety of the dog and him of course. He looked at Lothar as if they had been friends since lothar was a puppy. He smiled and slid out of the back of the truck.
' You're riding shot gun Lothar'
He said and closed the back of the truck. Dogs could jump couldn't they? He walked to the passanger side and opened the door. His window rolled down and he looked at Lothar. Leaving the door open he walked around thr front of the truck and got in the drivers side. He felt his pockets... where were his kyes? He looked around.
'Loather, come... up front bro'
He said meaning Lothar could jump in the front seat and look out the window. He felt his back pocket where they had been and looked under the dash board. Where the hell did he put them? He usually just left them in the truck or in the ignition but the one day he takes them out he loses them. He was sure he'd find them though he knew they were in his pocket. He looked out teh window they weren't on the ground.
'Where the hell are my keys?!'
He said outloud and sat back in his seat sighing.

Shot gun? Was that some sort of odd human phrase or something? The dog tilted his head, watching the man quizzically. Lothar didn't have to wait too long for his confusion to slip away once the man told him to go up front. The Tervuren stood up again, half-leaping so he could slip into a seat that didn't have a wheel infront of it. His cream-colored tail wagged slightly, chocolate-colored eyes watching the man's every move. The man seemed to be looking for something. That something must be his 'keys,' whatever that was. Lothar let out a slight whine and inched slightly towards the man, a look clearly saying give the command, and I'll find it plastered on his face. Ah, this was the first time since he came to Sorrow that he wasn't bored. How fun.

Jay put his hands on the wheel and put his head on them. Now just so you all know, Jay has a horrid with his memory. He inhaled deeply and looked over as Lothar whined at him. Jay took a smoke out and lit it. He inhaled deeply and his knee shook as he stared at the dog, he wasn't mad. It was more of a thinking stare.
' Do you know how dumb I feel for losing those keys? And you are looking at me like 'jay you're a dumbass' i see it Lothar don't lie to me'
He said to the dog and rolled his eyes. Obviously they were in the bed of the pick up truck but Jay was determine they were in obvious sight only because he was so used to leaving them in his truck. He took a drag off his smoke and held it in. To the point that when he exhaled no smoke even came out.
He looked around his truck again, eyes locking on everyplace he would of though he put it. The dog was still sitting outside of the truck. Why? Jay stared at the dog. Why was he still sitting outside? He frowned and thought to himself. This dog seemed pretty smart. For a dog that lived on the streets. He frowned again and eyed him.
'Hey Lothar... go find the keys. Go find my keys buddy.'
He said to him withe ase in his voice. He sat up and looked out the window. His elbow out the window his hand on his forhead and the smoke hanging from his mouth. This was great he was turning to a dog, he didn't doubt the dog, but he had now asked a dog to help him.
Was he dumb enough to lose his keys in plain sight? He inhaled again and blew smoke out his nose, eyes closed and his hand covered his face as he was thinking. He blocked everything out, where the hell did he put those stupid keys? From now on they get left in the truck!
